Biography

Gabriel Stoyanov is a Bulgarian–Swiss ballet dancer, pedagogue, and researcher based in Zurich, Switzerland. His artistic journey began at the age of five, when he joined Bulgaria’s oldest folklore ensemble, “Rosna Kitka.” Under the guidance of Nicola Kolev at the National School of Dance Art, he trained extensively in Bulgarian folklore dance, developing musicality, rhythm, and stage presence that would later inform his classical work.

At the age of thirteen, Gabriel discovered his deep passion for ballet and began his classical training under the legendary Krassimira Koldamova. This pivotal transition allowed him to merge his folkloric roots with classical ballet technique, shaping a versatile and expressive artistic identity.

Driven by a strong commitment to both performance and education, Gabriel pursued higher education at the National Musical Academy “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” in Sofia. In 2017, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Ballet Pedagogy, qualifying professionally as a Balletmaster-Pedagogue. His comprehensive studies covered classical and character dance, modern and jazz ballet, ballet history, and repertoire. He then advanced his expertise with a Master’s degree in Ballet Pedagogy in 2018, specializing in advanced teaching methodologies, the organizational management of dance institutions, and scholarly research in dance theory.

In pursuit of academic excellence and artistic depth, Gabriel undertook doctoral studies at the world-renowned Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg, where he is a PhD candidate in Art Studies (Choreographic Art). His doctoral work focused on advanced research in ballet choreography, dance theory, and historical analysis, exploring choreographic structures, stylistic evolution, and the transmission of classical ballet traditions while contributing to academic discourse through research presentations and publications. Alongside his research, Gabriel was actively involved in teaching and mentoring students, as well as participating in international conferences, seminars, and professional development programs.

During this period, Gabriel was also granted the exceptional opportunity to train with the Bolshoi Ballet Theatre in Moscow. With special permission, he participated in rehearsals and worked closely with leading professionals of the company—an experience that profoundly enriched his artistic and technical development and complemented his academic training at Vaganova.

Alongside his academic and pedagogical work, Gabriel has built an extensive international performing career. Having previously served as a Leading Soloist with BalletXtreme, he was invited by Nina Ananiashvili for the company’s 174th winter season (2025/26) and contracted as a Leading Soloist with the State Ballet of Georgia, predominantly dancing soloist roles. His artistic path reflects a strong grounding in the Vaganova method, combined with versatile experience across classical, neoclassical, and contemporary repertoire.

Throughout his journey, Gabriel’s focus, discipline, and dedication have been central to his growth as an artist and educator. He strongly believes in the importance of mentorship, collaboration, and continuous learning, drawing inspiration from colleagues, students, and creative environments across cultures.

Gabriel is deeply convinced that art, music, and dance are powerful forces that connect people and elevate the human spirit. He is passionate about nurturing creativity and contributing to the transformative potential of the arts—both on stage and in the studio.

Whether as a performer, pedagogue, researcher, or collaborator, Gabriel welcomes meaningful artistic exchange and new opportunities. He believes that by inspiring one another and working together, we enrich not only our individual paths but the broader cultural landscape as well.
